Hello, it’s been a while…

bean.jpgHas it really been almost 3 weeks since we’ve posted? There’s just been lots of stuff going on that make it hard to sit down and write something out. Just a sample - Jenn’s been preparing for the start of Community Bible Study, one of the girls had to have some minor surgery, and then we had a weekend trip to Chicago in the midst of everything else. And those are just the “big” things. But I think things are slowing down a little bit so maybe we’ll have some spare time to devote to blogging.

We(Jenn and I) still have regular talks about whether to stay out our church or not. It’s a tough decision and quite frankly, a lot of it centers around the kids. But the situation there doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon so at some point we’re just going to have to buckle down and decide something. It’s so much easier just to put it off though… :)

Been reading quite a few new blogs from people either in the same place or further down the road than we are. Subversive Influence, Under The Grace, Thoughts from a Ragamuffin, and A Deconstructed Christian all provide some useful insights into what being part of the church is all about. You might not agree with everything they say but that’s not really the point, is it?

Speaking of blogs, ye olde blogroll is in need of some updating. Expect that within the next few weeks.

BTW, the picture above(click on it for a larger version) is of the bean in Chicago. It’s a great little town and we actually get to go back in about a month. So if you have any suggestions of things to do for a family with small children then suggest away. We’d love any ideas you might have.

Thanks!

You could look up my niece and her family in Chicago ;-}

I was at a place where I wanted to find a new place to worship myself. It’s so hard. My son is comfortable where we are he has made some friendships that are going to last awhile so we’ll be staying. Things don’t change we just have to decide if we can take it or not.

Doing what is best for my children is important.

I’ll be praying for you and your family.

Don’t know if I’m too late, but since I get a free hotel room every few months, my family and I take advantage of it. The Bean is very cool. The John Hancock Building observation deck. The Shedd Aquarium. The Museum of Science and Industry (especially the model train layout of Chicago-Seattle train lines). Our boys are now 5 & 4. Their last trip was a year ago (Shedd and John Hancock). Previous trips included the others. They are supposed to be moving the Children’s Museum (I believe) into the space under the Bean, but that hasn’t happened yet. The Bean is cool for small kids because there is a huge open field right next to it for running and playing. If the weather is warm, make sure you go down to the fountain there too. Kids can take their shoes off and play in the 2-3 inch deep water while waiting for the “people” to “spit.” I’ll let you see what I mean! ;-)

We were up in Chi-town in June. (Well, the two older boys and I. . .) My folks live halfway between Michigan Ave and the Lake, right near Navy Pier. Great view from their flat.

Bob - Thanks for the advice! We only had 2-1/2 days so we decided not to overschedule and just try to enjoy our time there. With the two girls, it was a requirement that we go to the American Girl store. But we also made it to Shedd Aquarium and down to Millennium Park to see the Bean. We have some cool pictures of that which I might try to post. Too much to do and not enough time so I guess we’ll have to make it back at some point. Maybe when S2(the boy) is a little older.

TG - Cool! While we didn’t make it down to the pier we did drive down Ohio and by there on the way out. I have to say that if you’re going to live in Chicago that would be the way to do it. I’ll remember to ask you for advice the next time we head that way.
