For a taste of what’s coming in May…

It just gives me the shivers. For more high-res versions see NarniaWeb.

Being the CS Lewis fan that I am, I know I’ll be seeing this when it comes out, DV.

I’ve also seen the BBC DVDs of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair.

Of course Disney is much more high tech, and in the BBC version I couldn’t STAND Mr. and Mrs. Beavers’ costumes, nor how Mr. Beaver acted the part, BUT, I have to say in all the BBC versions I liked Aslan MUCH more than I did on the Disney version of the first book.

And there is something that Disney leaves out that the BBC versions leave in — and that is the humor that is in the books. Disney’s LW&W was just too overly serious and too much was made of family strife and conflict. In addtion to leaving out the Lewis’ droll humor meant to appeal to children, Disney added stuff that was just not necessary — such as them all being carried away in an icy river and then getting out of it just fine with no frostbite, bruises, or anything.

But it is all the adventure and drama and precious little of Lewis’ warmth and humor that made me not satisfied with the Disney version. I vote for the BBC version — much less sophisticated and horrible Beaver costumes and all! ;-)

We’ll have to see about this next one!

What’s with this getting carried away by a river stuff? Same thing happened to Aragorn in LOTR. And it added nothing to the story there either.

I haven’t seen the BBC versions of the Chronicles but sounds like they might be worth checking out. I bet they have them at the local library…

Still excited about this one though!

They’ve been around for years. If you ever see The Silver Chair, you will think the world of the guy who acted the part of Puddleglum!

Of the BBC versions, I liked The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair very, very much.

I’ve seen the BBC version of The LW&W, and I have to say that Lucy’s terrible overbite was way too distracting for me. But it’s been years since I’ve seen it, so maybe I won’t have such a shallow view of it now. ;)

I enjoyed the Disney version overall, and can’t wait to see Prince Caspian!! I need to go back and read the book again to refresh my memory on the details. Thanks for perking our anticipation, Brian!
