I must be dense. Is that a real hint or are you just toying with me? Be honest. I can take it.

Janice Jackson? Didn’t she play Tootie on Facts of Life? She kept on telling Blair “It’s Ms Jackson if you’re nasty” and they had to keep breaking up fights on set. Then Janet(the other Jackson) picked up the line and made it famous in one of her songs. At least that’s how I heard it.

Yes, it’s a real hint. Remember that in a certain region of our state - the region I happen to live in - there is not even a real letter to emulate the sound that some people make when trying to pronounce the long “I”. I know you know the answer to this one.

Ah, yes, it’s all coming back to me now. I think Ms. Garrett was even hospitalized over one of those Tootie/Blair encounters. Sad story, really…

Okay, just to ease the strain I’ve put you under, let me explain that we will absolutely NOT, under any circumstances, name our child any name that has the long “I” sound in it b/c waaaayyy too many people around here (including my husband and in-laws) can’t pronounce the long “I” sound, and it drives me insane!

Ryan, Brian, Michael, Tyler, Josiah…they’re all out, even though some of those names I’m quite fond of. So that’s that.

Would we tell you if you guessed correctly? Probably not, but at least now you have a narrower list of possibilities to choose from. Happy guessing!

Okay - it all makes more sense to me now. I misunderstood your hint. I knew your feelings about the long “i” sound, but I thought you were saying that the name you had chosen did have it, so at first I was confused. Then I got excited as I realized that the list of name possibilities just got pretty short. Alas, I was mistaken and I’ll just have to be content to wait to greet your little guy by name along with the rest of the world.

Maybe I can handle it…
