I've been on a Tim Keller podcast kick the past couple of weeks. Idolatry is key in how he communicates the Gospel. And he explains that for many of us, idolatry is when we take a good thing, and make it an ultimate thing. Ouch. That's much easier to see in my life than an object of wood or stone.

To Clare:
Because you asked - It was my understanding that hyssop was used to make some sort of ceremonial water for cleansing purposes or perhaps for purification purposes.

What is hyssop, anyway? Something you ingest, or something you bathe in?
