We’re So Proud of Ourselves!

Posted on July 3, 2006 by Reon

Saturday (July1), jlove and I went with some friends to the Smoky Mtns. and hiked the 11-mile loop around Cades Cove. Being complete novices at this experience, we felt the need to share b/c we were quite proud that we actually made it out with our legs still attached to our bodies. We learned that the best time to go is around 5pm. It took us four hours, so we finished just at dusk when the air was nice and cool. This was the best time to see animals, as well. We probably saw 15-20 deer, and at least half of them were young bucks. No bears, though. :( We had a great time, and can’t wait to do it again! Anyone want to join us?!

No bears? That’s because they hanging out along I-40 in Middle & West Tennessee…

Sounds like a nice time and that 11 miles impresses me. If we decide to go next time will you help carry the kids when they get tired?

My husband and I honeymooned in Gatlinburg in 1985, and we hiked up and down Mt. LeConte.

The night before our hike, in bed, my husband told me a real life scary bear story.

We had planned on taking the shorter, less travelled route up the mountain, and after hearing that story late at night, I absolutely refused.

So we went the longer way up and down. I remember we saw a lodge and cabins at the top of the mountain, and a man leading a llama train, packed with provisions for the lodge on the way up, and taking trash on the way down.
