I grew up believing that in order to determine God's will, I had to go into a dark room with a pillow over my head to drown out the "world" so I could hear God's still, small voice, and I couldn't come out until I knew He wanted me to do. If it didn't work, it was because God must not have been pleased with my "walk" lately. It was through an audio tape I got from Brian that I learned how crazy that was. Part of my coming to earn the respect of the pastor of our new church was when he told the youth group (as he chuckled) that when God wants you to do something, rest assured He'll let you know! I see from the comments that some have been made since the post. After reading your angst over all these decisions, aren't you glad for people like Garry Friesen and others who give us such relief that we don't have to hit that "bullseye," or find that ever mysterious "dot?" Can you imagine people going through what you described, and all the perplexity you communicatied being enormously amplified in them, because they feel they have to really nail it down to the *right* decision or they will somehow miss "God's best?" How sad! Your post brought home to me that there are many who agonize about hitting a target that God doesn't mean for them to aim at -- not that you were doing that -- it just reminded me of that. DD2 is officially a kindergartener. I think her teacher will be a good fit for her. I feel a little better about my decision after being there today, but I've scheduled a conference with DD2's teacher just to let her know my concerns, etc. DD1 is officially a first grader today. She looks sooo big next to the kindergarteners! And her confidence was just oozing. She is still a little anxious about making new friends, but that will come with time. As you know, DD2 has the skills to do the work. It's just her listening ability that's suspect at times. She really needs someone who will be understanding but firm. Really though, I can't imagine her being any worse than some of the boys I've seen that are her age. There are some other factors too that would take too long to write about that we may can talk about the next time y'all are in town. Move East?
