Stats and Stuff

Posted on August 26, 2006 by Brian

Well, according to Sitemeter we broke the 1000th visitor mark this week(Woohoo!). Don’t know how much stock to put in this as our built in AWStats package shows over 1400 visitors in August alone. I know that it includes hits from feed readers and stuff that Sitemeter doesn’t count but it’s still a pretty big discrepancy. Who knows? I guess all I can say for sure is that the trend is towards more visits and for that we thank everyone who takes the time to drop by. And a special thanks to those who’ve linked to is in various places : Tulipgirl, Ilona, Rey, Lynn, anyone else I forget?

What else? Hmmm……

Since Reon’s IQ post, the single largest search that brings visitors here has been something to do with crayola. Nothing else even comes close. The funny thing is that of the 95 searches, about 70 of them are using www.bhg.com/crayola as the search term instead of going directly to the site.

Reon also has the most views on a single post. Here’s how the top 5 break down :

Of course, this only measures how many people went to that post directly. It can’t tell how many read a post on the main page so it’s not entirely accurate.

Ok, enough of this. Get on with your weekend and as always, “be careful out there”.

One day when a small faith is one of the movers and shakers in the blogosphere, I’ll be able to say “I liked to them when. . .”

*grin*

Congratulations! Now I have a question. I use the free site meter. I clicked on your icon, and I can’t see your stats, but if you click on mine, you will see mine. I tried to make it so my computer won’t register, but then I realized each time I exit my ISP, I have the settings to delete all cookies, so my hits will always show up. I just don’t feel like resetting the site meter each time.

But how do you keep your stats private? Is that an upgrade, or can I do that on the free service?

TG - That’s right! There will come a day when the likes of Joe Carter and Tim Challies will be begging for a link from us. And maybe we’ll toss ‘em a crumb, maybe not. It may all depend on how freshly squeezed my orange juice was that morning.

now leaving dreamland…

Eric - Thanks man! Not that the goal is number of visits but I do hope that we start to get a little wider audience. But I’m very happy with the first few months. It’s fun blogging with your buds!

Lynn - You can keep stats private on the free service. Just log in to Sitemeter, click on the ‘Manager’ link on the horizontal green bar, then click the ‘Privacy Level’ link on the left. I have ours set to medium.

Thanks! I’ll do that. I wonder now if I should not have all cookies deleted when I exit my ISP, so I can have the meter weed out my usage. It must use some kind of cookie to do that, and I keep deleting it. I’ll have to ask dh what he wants.
