More snow pics

Posted on February 29, 2008 by Brian

Meant to have these up yesterday for Joe(heh heh) but the day got away from me.

I was able to spend a little time outside with the kids after work but it didn’t take long until my hands were numb. Jenn was commenting on how as kids they would play for hours, come in until their clothes were barely dry and then go back out for more. I remember doing the same thing but if I tried that now I’d need a week to recover.

But we are thankful for the snow. And I hope that Kathy and others who want it get some before the season is done.

Finally, some snow

Posted on February 27, 2008 by Brian

Some of you northern folk may scoff but a 3″ snow down here in Tennessee is nothing to sneeze(or shiver) at. But didn’t we have twice as many snows that were twice as deep when I was a kid? Or is that my 40yo brain playing tricks on me again? No matter, we’ll just enjoy this one while we have it.

The picture below is off our back patio last night and the snow is still falling. A little fuzzy cuz I took it sans tripod but not too bad. You can click for a slightly larger version.

Back to Basics

When you don’t know which end is up it helps to get back to something basic. And Rich Mullins singing “Creed” is like comfort food for the soul. Enjoy.

Prayer Request

Posted on February 20, 2008 by Brian

Please pray for our friend Sarah who us being evacuated from Guyana due to the recent massacre which has taken place there(see here and here). She’s there teaching for a year and it’s hard for her to leave the kids and her friends but the organization she is with has decided it’s time.

Along with Sarah and her team, please pray for the safety of the kids and people still there and that the authorities would be able to catch the people responsible for this.

Thanks.

Math & Love

If I didn’t have such a low self-image already….. Brant provides us with an almost perfect mathematical formula for determining your odds with a particular someone. Going with his variables, I come out with a -237. Not so good. What he leaves out is the lady’s mental state. The secret is to pop the question when their defenses are down. Like when they have flu-like symptoms and haven’t had any decent rest for the past 24 hours. Hey, it worked for me… :).

This one’s for you, honey (don’t shoot me) :

We’ll know it when we get there - or maybe not

Posted on February 6, 2008 by Brian

As I think about whether to move on from our current church one of the hesitations is that I don’t have a complete picture of what I should be looking for. And that bothers me. I’m a systems analyst by trade and that side of my personality likes to know where I’m at, where I’m going, and how I’m going to get there. Along with an accompanying process flow diagram, of course. :)

I recognize that in myself but I also recognize that real life isn’t necessarily going to appease my personal quirks. So I just have to deal. That doesn’t mean there are no guidelines or parameters. Just that they aren’t as concrete as I might like. And part of the reason it’s like that is that no matter how complete the checklist, there’s always going to be that ineffable something that you only know by actually being there. Call it intuition or the Spirit or whatever.

Quite frankly, I could do without all that experiencing. Not because I’m opposed to the subjective(although being a mentat does sound cool) but because it means that, well, you have to experience it. And that takes time. And even after all that time you can still end up being wrong. Ugh.

So will we know it when we get there? Maybe…. more likely it’ll be a case of figuring what’s most important to us and what are we willing to let slip by the wayside. But we could be surprised, who knows?
